Wraysbury Under 14's Go Goals Galore

The past year has been nothing short of incredible for the Wraysbury U14s football team. From their ecstatic celebration of their first-ever win last season, a narrow 7-5 triumph treated like a cup final, to their subsequent victories of 18-0 and 15-0 against the same opponents this season, it’s evident how far they’ve come.
The tables below illustrate the transformation: this season’s standings above, last year’s below, with an astonishing 16-point leap toward the team who ultimately finished top.

Season 23/24

Season 22/23

Of the 18 games played this season, they won 16, drew 1, and lost another. They scored a total of 100 goals, shared among 16 different players, while maintaining 6 clean sheets and conceding only 21 goals. Their commendable cup run was halted by a narrow 5-3 defeat to a team two divisions above them. On average, each game saw 6 goals scored by Wraysbury, with only 1 against them. Joshua Erema emerged as the top scorer with an impressive 36 goals, including 6 hat tricks, while William Constable earned the most Man of the Match awards.

Managed by Asif Khan, former coach of the Wraysbury Village ladies and the legendary U10s ‘Lammas Park Invincibles’ and his amazing management team of Manpreet Gill (Assistant Manager), Pardeep Bithal (Coach), and Nuno Gordino(coach) and led on the pitch by captain Austin Cray, the team embodies the spirit of the village.

They’ve internalized three core values:

  1. Enjoyment: Fear has no place on the field for these 13 and 14-year-olds.
  2. Hard work: They understand that without it, success is unattainable
  3. Respect: Win, draw, or lose, they proudly represent Wraysbury.

Supported by dedicated parents and coaches who uphold these values, the team’s bond is palpable. Their only challenge? Selecting a squad from a consistently strong and available pool of 20 players.

What next?

Division 2 of the Surrey Primary League awaits. With younger players experiencing growth spurts and fringe players developing into core members, the team anticipates another successful season. Regardless of outcomes, they remain champions in the eyes of their community, proud of their remarkable journey and achievements
