Burghfield 5 Wraysbury Village 1

(Anum (1)

Second half collapse in a top of the table clash as Burghfield put five past Wraysbury on a stormy Monday evening.

We failed to bounce back from a heavy defeat at the weekend with another crushing defeat at title rivals Burghfield on an incredibly rainy Monday evening. We were level at half time but two sin-bins and two penalties just added to a second half collapse for us.

Once again, the two games in two days took its toll on our squad which saw Alfie Fairhall unable to make it past the warm up through injury.

We went behind early on but were still very much in the game before Stan Anum tapped in the equaliser from Cristiano Nascimento’s cross ball. That was thought to be the turning point for us, especially when Landi smashed one from 20 yards against the bar, but that in fact turned out to be our downfall. With that shot not going in Burghfield retook the lead. Chasing that equaliser again, Billy Hart was sent in the sin-bin for 10 minutes for questioning the referee’s decision. Mathew Hursey and Evan Rawlings came on for us but Burghfield increased their lead to 3-1. Dan Stock was brought on and within a minute Burghfield were then given a penalty when Sam Sillah was adjudged to have caught their striker in the box, although the contact looked very minimal. Sillah argued his case but the ref was having none of it and eventually lost his patience and also sent Sillah in the bin. The penalty was converted with ease 4-1. Things couldn’t get worse surely, until Mathew Hursey slipped in the box bringing down their striker to give away another penalty. 5-1 was how it finished.

11 goals conceded in two games is just not what we are about. Something hasn’t clicked in the last two games, and with the injuries building up aswell as having to play two games in 48 hours, things are not going our way and our title hopes are extinguishing rapidly after all that hard work at the beginning of the season. Hopefully we can bounce back
