Goring United 3 Wraysbury Village 2
Our Ladies went down to their first defeat of the season despite taking a two goal lead, injuries began to build up and with that struggled to cope.
For those not there today. We lost Chloe this morning before even kicking a ball due to a freak injury – a sign of things to come!
We took the lead after 30 seconds (an own goal from a long Nicole throw) then soon after went 2 up with Nicole bursting through and somehow 🙂 getting one in past the keeper.
Short on Centre backs already, thats where it started going even more wrong. Rebeckah injured her thigh. Moved Hannah in there, there went her calf…soon after Zoey off then Mel off…and not for the first time this season left me and Rachel scratching our heads as to how to improvise?!
They were running through at will and not quite sure how we hung on and only let in the one before half time. Though we did have a huge chance to go 3-1 ourselves – Sarah through and inches wide. Inches.
2nd half we knuckled down and held on and I actually thought we were going to do it. A note too that by now Nicole’s hamstring had forced her off, Alex too was clearly struggling. Rebeckah, Zoey and Mel were back on but hampered..anyway 8 mins to go and they broke the resistance with a smart low finish.
Still, 2-2 not bad all things considered. Ask the ref how long – he says 2 and a half minutes…this already 3 minutes into stoppage time. Anyway no more stoppages and tick tock onto 5 minutes now and 8 minutes added overall, they score the winner and the whistle went.
It hurt. We will though rest, regroup and bounce back!
